Who is Cape Town's #1 radio station?

It’s not every day that you get a call to ask if you’d like to photograph all the radio DJs for Cape Town’s #1 radio station, KFM 94.5.

When the Advertising Agency, 3Verse, called me my heart dropped a little, probably because I didn’t know many of these larger-than-life characters.

My Creative brief was; ‘to capture the personality and energy that each of these radio presenters shares with their listeners every day’.

Now that was quite a brief!

We had an amazing group of individuals who came together as a team with Danielle; the Agency Creative, whose idea we were executing, and Francois; who was responsible for the colourful and magnificent styling (by the way, he flew down from Johannesburg with several suitcases full of amazing outfits), along with amazing hair and makeup. We even had an appointed DJ who knew exactly what music to play for the various radio presenters.

We set up a studio at the Primedia offices in Greenpoint and shot there for a few days.

As a portrait photographer, I often wonder, “Does one get better photographs if you know the person you are shooting?”
In this case, I think not?
